To merge PDF files, open Merge PDF, drop in two or more PDFs, arrange them with the up and down arrows, and press Merge. The combined file downloads as merged.pdf. Pages are copied without any quality loss, there's no watermark, and your files are never uploaded because the merge happens in your browser.
When do you need to merge PDFs?
- Combining a CV, cover letter and certificates into one application file
- Joining monthly bank statements or invoices for an accountant
- Putting scanned pages from different sessions into one document
- Adding an appendix or signed page to a report
- Uploading to a portal that accepts only one PDF
How do I merge PDFs step by step?
- Open Merge PDF.
- Drag your PDFs onto the box, or click to choose them. You can add more at any time.
- Arrange the order with ↑ and ↓. Remove a file with ✕.
- Check the total size shown next to the button.
- Press Merge … PDFs. Progress shows each file as it's added.
- The merged PDF downloads automatically as merged.pdf. Rename it to something meaningful, like
application-jane-doe.pdf.
The merge runs in a background worker, so even a long document doesn't freeze the page.
Will my links, fonts and images survive?
Yes. Each page is copied as it is, so text stays selectable and searchable, images keep their resolution, and fonts look the same. Interactive extras such as fillable form fields or bookmarks may not carry over perfectly, because they belong to the original document structure.
How do I add images or a Word file to the merged PDF?
Convert them to PDF first, then merge:
- Photos or scans: Image to PDF (see how to convert images to PDF)
- Word documents: Word to PDF (see how to convert Word to PDF)
- iPhone photos: HEIC to PDF
Then add the new PDFs to Merge PDF in the order you want.
How do I merge PDFs on a phone?
Open Merge PDF in your phone's browser, tap the box and choose the PDFs from your Files app or downloads. On iPhone, tap Browse to reach files saved from Mail or WhatsApp. Arrange them, press Merge, and the result is saved to your downloads (on iPhone, the Files app). From there you can share it to email, WhatsApp or an upload form. Phones have less memory than computers, so for very large files a computer is faster.
Can I take pages out or reorder pages inside a PDF?
Merge PDF works with whole files: it keeps every page of each PDF, in the file order you choose. If you only need some pages as images, PDF to JPG lets you pick exactly which pages to export.
Troubleshooting
- "This file is password-protected. Unlock it first": open it in the app that created it, or in a PDF reader where you know the password, and save a copy without the password. Then merge that copy.
- "Not a readable PDF": the file is damaged or isn't really a PDF. Try downloading it again.
- The merged file is too big for email: most email services limit attachments to about 20–25 MB. Split the job into two merges, or use a file-sharing link instead.
- Out of memory on a phone: merge fewer or smaller files at a time, or use a computer.
Tips for professional documents
- Put a cover page or the most important document first.
- Use consistent page sizes where you can; mixing A4 and Letter looks untidy when printed.
- Name the final file clearly. Recipients often search their downloads by name.
- Check the merged PDF once before sending; scroll through every page.
Is it safe to merge confidential PDFs?
Yes. Most online merge tools upload your files to their server. Here the merge happens on your own device, so contracts, medical letters and financial documents stay private.
Combine your files now with Merge PDF. To turn pages into images afterwards, see how to convert PDF to JPG.
Frequently asked questions
How do I combine PDF files in a specific order?
Add the PDFs to Merge PDF, then use the up and down arrows to arrange them before pressing Merge. The merged file follows that order.
Does merging reduce the quality of my PDFs?
No. Pages are copied as they are, so text, images and links stay exactly the same quality.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
Not directly. Remove the password first in the app that created the PDF, then merge the unlocked copy.
Is there a limit on file size?
Up to about 300 MB in total on a computer, less on phones with little memory.
