How to create a QR code
- Choose what it opens. Pick “Link or text” for a website, menu, review page or any message. Pick “Wi-Fi” to let guests join your network by scanning, without typing the password.
- Enter your content. The preview updates as you type. Test it straight away by pointing your phone's camera at the screen.
- Style it (optional). Change the colours to match your brand, but keep the code dark on a light background; you'll see a warning if the contrast is too low to scan. Medium error correction suits screens. Choose High for print or if you plan to put a logo on top.
- Download. PNG works for documents, slides and social media; set the size up to 2048 pixels. SVG is best for print because it scales to any size without blurring, from business cards to posters.
Do these QR codes expire?
No. These are static QR codes: the link or text is stored in the pattern itself. Many “free” generators create dynamic codes that redirect through their servers and stop working when a trial ends. Codes made here never redirect, never track who scans them and never expire.
What can a QR code hold?
Up to a few thousand characters, but less is better. A website link, a short message or Wi-Fi details all fit easily. For long content, put it on a web page and link to that.
Tips for codes that scan every time
- Print the code at least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide, and bigger if people will scan it from a distance.
- Keep the white border around the code. Scanners need it to find the edges.
- Shorter links make simpler patterns that scan faster and from further away.
- Test with two different phones before you print a large run.
Privacy
Your code is generated in your browser. Nothing you type, including Wi-Fi passwords, is sent to a server.
Frequently asked questions
Do these QR codes expire?
No. They're static codes: the link or text is stored in the code itself, so it works forever and there's no account or tracking.
How do I make a QR code for Wi-Fi?
Choose the Wi-Fi tab, type the network name and password, and pick the security type. Phones that scan it can join without typing the password.
What size should a printed QR code be?
At least 2 × 2 cm (0.8 in) for close scanning, and larger for posters: about one tenth of the scanning distance.
PNG or SVG?
PNG for documents and websites; SVG for print, because it stays sharp at any size.
