Why use text to speech?
Listening is often easier than reading. Hearing your own writing read aloud is one of the best ways to catch clumsy sentences and typos. It gives your eyes a rest after a day at a screen, and it makes written content accessible to people with dyslexia, low vision or reading fatigue.
Modern AI voices have changed what text to speech sounds like. Instead of flat, robotic reading, they pause at commas, rise at questions and stress the right words, so the result is pleasant to listen to and good enough to publish. It also turns reading time into listening time you can use on a walk, a commute or at the gym.
Who uses text to speech?
- Content creators make voice-overs for videos, reels and presentations without recording.
- Students listen to notes and readings while commuting or exercising.
- Professionals proofread emails and reports by ear, and narrate training material.
- People who prefer listening, including those with dyslexia or visual impairments.
- Language learners hear how words and sentences are pronounced.
How it differs from other text-to-speech tools
Built-in computer voices are free but sound mechanical, and most can't save the audio as a file. Many online services, on the other hand, ask you to create an account before you hear a single word, or cap free use so tightly that you can't judge the quality.
Here you can try natural AI voices straight away, with no account, and download standard MP3 files with no audio watermark. When you need more, Pro removes the daily limit for one simple monthly price. Each conversion takes only seconds, so you can try a sentence in several voices, adjust your wording and generate again until it sounds right.
Tips for natural-sounding speech
- Write the way you speak. Short sentences sound more natural than long ones full of clauses.
- Use punctuation to steer the pace. Commas add short pauses, full stops add longer ones, and question marks lift the end of a sentence.
- Spell out anything that could be read the wrong way, such as unusual abbreviations, codes or numbers you want said in a particular way.
- Split long scripts into paragraphs and generate them one at a time. If one part needs changing, you only redo that part.
- Try two or three voices on the same sentence; the right tone makes a bigger difference than you'd expect.
What happens to your text
Unlike our file tools, text to speech can't run entirely in your browser: natural AI voices need powerful servers. Your text is therefore sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to our AI voice provider solely to generate your audio. The audio streams straight back to you, and we don't save your text or the audio. To enforce the free daily limit without an account, we keep only an anonymous, hashed form of your IP address, which is deleted at midnight UTC. As with any online service, avoid pasting passwords or other secrets.
