How to check your grammar

Quick answer: To check your grammar, paste or type your text, read the highlights, fix with one click and copy your text.

  1. Paste or type your text. An email, essay, cover letter, post or report. Long documents are fine.
  2. Read the highlights. Red is spelling, blue is grammar, teal is punctuation, amber is clarity and violet is style.
  3. Fix with one click. Each suggestion card has buttons that apply the fix in place. Ignore anything you meant to write.
  4. Copy your text. Copy the corrected text straight back into your document.

What it checks

Spelling against an English (US) dictionary, words people often mix up (your/you're, its/it's, their/there/they're, then/than, affect/effect, lose/loose, “could of”), a vs an, repeated words, missing apostrophes (“dont”), capital letters, spaces and repeated punctuation, wordy phrases (“utilize” → “use”), passive voice, filler words and hard-to-read sentences.

Not AI, and that's on purpose

This is a dictionary and rule-based checker, like the spell check in a word processor with extra grammar and style rules. It doesn't rewrite your sentences or send your text to an AI service, so it's instant, private and predictable. It won't catch every grammar mistake; read your text once more before sending something important.

British or American English?

The dictionary is American English, so “colour” or “organise” may be flagged. Use “Add to my dictionary” for words you want to keep: they're remembered in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Is this grammar checker free?

Yes. No account, no word limit and no premium upsell.

Is my text uploaded or stored?

No. The checks run in your browser and nothing is sent to a server, so it's safe for confidential emails and documents.

Does it work for long documents?

Yes. The checks run in the background, so a 5,000-word essay stays smooth to edit.

Can it check other languages?

Not yet: it checks English only, with an American English dictionary.

Why is a correct word marked as misspelled?

Names, brands and technical terms often aren't in the dictionary. Click “Add to my dictionary” and it won't be flagged again in this browser.
