How to trim a video

Quick answer: To trim a video, add your video, set the start and end, press Trim and download.

  1. Add your video. Drag it onto the box or click to choose it. It plays right in the page.
  2. Set the start and end. Drag the sliders, or play to the right moment and press Set to playhead.
  3. Press Trim. The first time, the video engine (about 31 MB) loads and is then cached.
  4. Download. The trimmed clip downloads in the same format and quality.

Fast cut vs frame-exact

The normal cut copies the video without re-encoding, so it takes seconds and loses nothing, but it starts on the nearest keyframe, usually within 1–2 seconds of your mark. Tick Frame-exact for a cut on the exact frame; it re-encodes to MP4 and takes longer.

Private and free

Most online trimmers upload your video and add a watermark. Here the work is done by FFmpeg running inside your browser, so nothing is uploaded and there's no watermark or size-based fee.

Frequently asked questions

Does trimming reduce video quality?

No. The fast cut copies the original video data. Only the frame-exact mode re-encodes, at high quality.

How big can the video be?

Up to 2 GB on a computer. Phones with less memory have a lower limit.

Does it work on iPhone videos?

Yes. iPhone .MOV and .MP4 files work.
