How to convert a video to a GIF

Quick answer: To convert a video to a GIF, add your video, trim to the moment you want, set the size and press Export GIF.

  1. Add your video. MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV.
  2. Trim to the moment you want. Keep it short: 2–6 seconds makes a GIF that loads fast.
  3. Set the size. In Export settings, choose the width (480 px suits most chats) and frames per second (10–15 looks smooth).
  4. Press Export GIF. Download the GIF when it's ready.

Why GIFs get big

A GIF stores every frame as a picture with at most 256 colours, so it's far less efficient than a video. Shorter clips, a smaller width and 10–12 frames per second keep the file small. This tool builds a custom colour palette for your clip, so colours stay clean.

Crop or speed it up first

You can also crop the GIF to a square, rotate it, or speed it up before exporting. Just switch tools before pressing Export.
