How to edit a video online

Quick answer: To edit a video online, add your video, pick a tool, choose the export and press Export.

  1. Add your video. Drag an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file onto the box. It plays right in the page.
  2. Pick a tool. Trim the start and end, crop to a shape, rotate, or change speed and volume. You can combine them.
  3. Choose the export. MP4 plays everywhere; GIF for chats and slides; MP3 to keep only the sound. Lower the resolution for a smaller file.
  4. Press Export. A progress bar shows how far along it is. Download the result when it's done.

What can I do with it?

Cut out the boring start, crop a landscape clip to 9:16 for TikTok or Reels, fix a sideways phone video, make a 2× time-lapse or a slow-motion clip, boost quiet audio, shrink a video so it fits in an email, or pull the audio out as an MP3.

Private and free

Most online video tools upload your file, put it in a queue and add a watermark. Here FFmpeg, the engine used by professional video software, runs inside your browser, so nothing is uploaded, there's no watermark and no file-size fee. The engine (about 31 MB) downloads once and is then cached.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a watermark?

No. The exported video is exactly your edit, with no logo or text added.

How long can the video be?

Files up to 2 GB work on a computer. Long videos take a while to re-encode in the browser; a trim-only edit is copied without re-encoding and takes seconds.

Which format should I export?

MP4 (H.264) for phones, social apps and editing programs. WebM is smaller for websites. GIF for short silent loops. MP3 for the sound only.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, in Chrome and Safari. Phones are slower than computers for long videos, so short clips work best.
