To edit a video in your browser, open the free Video Editor, drop in your clip, use the Trim, Crop, Rotate and Speed & sound tabs, pick an export format, and press Export. Everything runs on your own device with FFmpeg, so there's nothing to install, no upload and no watermark on the result.
This guide walks through each tool and explains which settings to use for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp and email.
What can the browser video editor do?
The editor covers the everyday jobs that usually send people to a heavy app:
- Trim: keep only the part you want, with start and end sliders and a "Set to playhead" button.
- Crop: cut the frame to 9:16 (TikTok, Reels, Shorts), 1:1 square, 4:5 Instagram post, 16:9 YouTube, or a free shape.
- Rotate and flip: turn sideways phone videos upright, mirror a selfie video, or flip it upside down.
- Speed and sound: from 0.25× slow motion to 4× faster, with the sound keeping its pitch; change the volume or mute.
- Export settings: choose MP4, WebM, GIF or MP3, the resolution (original, 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p) and the quality (High, Balanced or Small file).
If you only need one job, there are shortcuts that open the right panel straight away: Crop Video, Change Video Speed, Rotate Video, Video to GIF, Video to MP3 and Compress Video.
How do I edit a video step by step?
- Add your video. Drag an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file onto the box, or click to choose one. Files up to about 2 GB work on a computer; phones with less memory have a lower limit.
- Trim. On the Trim tab, drag the start and end sliders, or play the video to the right moment and press Set to playhead.
- Crop. On the Crop tab, pick a shape. A crop box appears on the video; drag it into place, resize it from the corners, or move it with the arrow keys.
- Rotate. Use Left or Right to turn the picture 90° at a time, plus Mirror or Flip upside down if needed.
- Speed & sound. Choose a speed and set the volume. Mute removes the sound completely.
- Export settings. Choose the format, resolution and quality. The editor shows an estimate of the output.
- Export. Press Export and wait for the progress bar. The first time, the video engine (about 31 MB) loads and is then cached by your browser. When it's done, press Download.

Why is exporting sometimes slow?
When you only trim, the editor can copy the video without re-encoding, which takes seconds and loses no quality; the cut then lands on the nearest keyframe, usually within a second or two of your mark. Any other edit (crop, rotate, speed, resizing, new format) means every frame is re-encoded. That runs on your own processor in a single thread, so a long 4K clip can take several minutes. To speed things up, trim first, pick a lower resolution, and choose the Small file quality.
Is it private?
Yes. Most online editors upload your video to their servers and add a watermark unless you pay. Here, FFmpeg, the same engine many professional tools use, runs inside the web page. Your video stays on your device, which matters for family clips, work recordings and anything personal.
Troubleshooting
- The preview is blank or black. Your browser may not decode that codec. The export usually still works, because FFmpeg reads the file itself.
- "This video has no sound to save as MP3." The clip has no audio track, so there's nothing to extract.
- The tab crashes on a huge file. Close other tabs, trim the clip into shorter parts, or use a computer instead of a phone.
- The cut isn't exact. Re-export with any other change (for example a resolution) so the video is re-encoded on the exact frame, or use Trim Video with frame-exact mode.
When you're ready, open the Video Editor. To just cut the start or end, Trim Video is the quickest option, and Mute Video removes sound in seconds.
Frequently asked questions
Is the online video editor really free?
Yes. There's no account, no watermark and no limit on how many videos you edit. Each video can be up to about 2 GB on a computer.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The editor runs FFmpeg inside your browser, so the video is processed on your own device and never sent to a server.
Why does my video not play in the preview?
Some browsers can't preview every codec (for example some H.264 or HEVC files in certain browsers). The editor reads the file with FFmpeg and can still export it, even if the preview is blank.
Which export format should I choose?
MP4 plays everywhere, so it's the safe choice for social media, WhatsApp and email. WebM is good for websites, GIF for short silent loops, and MP3 if you only need the sound.
