How to compress an image to 50 KB

Quick answer: To compress an image to 50 KB, add your images, check the target, press Compress and download.

  1. Add your images. Drag photos onto the box above or click it to choose them. JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF all work, and you can add many at once.
  2. Check the target. It's already set to 50 KB. You can type a different number or pick another common size.
  3. Press Compress. Each image is saved at the highest quality that still fits under the limit. The new size is shown next to it.
  4. Download. Save each image, or download them all as one zip.

When do you need a 50 KB image?

Many sites refuse files over a set size. 50 KB limits are common for photos on government forms, visa and passport applications, and online exams. At 50 KB a face photo around 400 × 500 px still looks clear. Bigger photos are scaled down automatically to fit.

How it works

The tool tries different JPG quality levels and keeps the best one under your limit. If even low quality is too big, it makes the photo a bit smaller and tries again, so you always get the sharpest photo that fits.

Is it safe for ID photos and documents?

Yes. Nothing is uploaded: the image is processed on your own phone or computer, and hidden data such as GPS location is removed from the result.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the form say my 48 KB photo is too big?

Some sites count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes and some as 1,000. This tool always uses 1,000, so a file it makes under 50 KB passes both checks.

Can I compress a PNG to 50 KB?

Yes. Choose JPG as the format (the default) for the smallest file. If the form needs PNG, choose PNG: it can only get smaller by reducing the pixel size.

Can I compress many photos at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like. They're compressed one after another, and Download all gives you a zip.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. It works in Chrome, Safari and Firefox on Android and iPhone, with no app to install.
