To change a video's speed, open the free Change Video Speed tool, drop in your video, pick a speed from 0.25× to 4× on the Speed & sound tab, and press Export. The sound keeps its normal pitch, so voices stay natural. Everything runs in your browser, so your video isn't uploaded and there's no watermark.
When would I change a video's speed?
- Speed up: turn a 10-minute recipe, drawing or setup video into a 1-minute time-lapse; tighten a slow tutorial; make a long walk-through watchable.
- Slow down: show a sports move, a dance step or a pet's jump in slow motion; make a reveal more dramatic.
- Small changes: 1.25× or 1.5× makes talking-head clips feel snappier, which helps on TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
How do I change the speed step by step?
- Add the video. Open Change Video Speed and drag in an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file. The Speed & sound tab opens first.
- Pick a speed. Choose 0.25×, 0.5× or 0.75× for slow motion, or 1.25×, 1.5×, 2×, 3× or 4× faster.
- Adjust the volume (optional). Set the volume between 0% and 200%, or press Mute to drop the sound, for example for a silent time-lapse.
- Trim (optional). On the Trim tab, choose the part to speed up. Trim times are measured on the original video.
- Export. Press Export, then Download when it's done.
How does the pitch stay the same?
Simply playing audio faster also raises its pitch, like a fast-forwarded tape. The tool uses FFmpeg's tempo filter instead, which stretches or squeezes the sound in time without changing its pitch. For speeds outside 0.5–2×, it chains several tempo steps together, so even 4× and 0.25× stay clear. Very extreme speeds can still sound a little robotic, which is normal.
How do I get smooth slow motion?
Slow motion looks best when the original video has more frames than needed:
| Recorded at | Smooth down to about |
|---|---|
| 30 fps | 1× (slower shows repeated frames) |
| 60 fps | 0.5× |
| 120 fps | 0.25× |
| 240 fps (phone slow-mo mode) | Very slow |
If you slow a normal 30 fps clip to 0.5×, each frame is shown twice as long, so fast motion can look stuttery. For the smoothest result, film in your phone's 60 fps or slow-motion mode.
Tips
- Time-lapse a long video: use 4×, and trim the boring parts first. Run it through twice (4× then 4× again) for a 16× effect.
- Make it fit a platform limit: speeding up a 70-second clip to 1.25× brings it under a minute.
- Combine with a crop: the same editor can crop to 9:16 for vertical video; see how to crop video for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
- Save just the sound: export a sped-up lecture as audio with Video to MP3.
Is it private and free?
Yes. FFmpeg runs inside your browser, so your video stays on your device. There's no account, watermark or daily limit.
Troubleshooting
- Export takes a while. Changing speed re-encodes the video, which uses your device's processor. Trim first and choose 720p in Export settings to speed it up.
- The preview speed looks normal. The preview shows the original; the speed change is applied when you export.
- No sound in the result. Check the volume isn't at 0% and the original has sound.

Frequently asked questions
Does changing the speed change the voice pitch?
No. The tool adjusts the audio tempo while keeping its pitch, so voices don't sound like chipmunks when sped up or deep when slowed down.
Can I make smooth slow motion from a normal video?
Slowing a 30 fps video to 0.5× shows each frame twice as long, so it can look a little choppy. Videos recorded at 60 fps or higher slow down much more smoothly.
What speeds are available?
0.25×, 0.5× and 0.75× for slow motion, normal 1×, and 1.25×, 1.5×, 2×, 3× and 4× faster.
Does a faster video have a smaller file?
Usually yes, because it's shorter. A 2× video is half as long, so at the same quality it's roughly half the size.
