Open the free HEIC to JPGOpen iPhone photos anywhere. Runs in your browser.

To convert HEIC to JPG, open the free HEIC to JPG converter, drop your iPhone photos onto the box, keep the quality at 90 and press Convert to JPG. Each photo takes a few seconds. Download them one by one or all at once. It works in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Android or iPhone, with no upload.

Why are my iPhone photos in HEIC format?

Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC by default. The format stores the same detail as JPG in roughly half the space, so your phone holds more pictures. Apple's own apps open HEIC without problems.

The trouble starts when photos leave the Apple world:

  • Older Windows PCs show "file format not supported".
  • Many government, job and university upload forms only accept JPG or PNG.
  • Some printing services and office programs can't read HEIC.
  • Websites and content systems often reject it.

JPG works everywhere, so converting is the simplest fix.

How do I convert HEIC to JPG step by step?

  1. Open HEIC to JPG.
  2. Drag your .heic or .heif photos onto the box, or click to choose them. You can add a whole batch.
  3. Set JPG quality. 90 is the default and looks the same as the original. Lower it for smaller files.
  4. Press Convert to JPG. A progress bar shows each photo; a 12-megapixel photo usually takes a few seconds.
  5. Press Download next to each photo, or Download all.

Each photo can be up to 40 MB, which covers every iPhone camera. The converter checks the file itself, not just its name, so a photo renamed to .heic by mistake is caught with a clear message.

How do I get HEIC photos off my iPhone?

  • AirDrop to a Mac keeps them as HEIC.
  • USB cable to Windows: open the iPhone in File Explorer, under DCIM. Photos may arrive as HEIC.
  • iCloud Photos on the web: downloading usually keeps the original HEIC.
  • Email or messaging apps often convert to JPG automatically, but they may also shrink the photo.

If you want the best quality, copy the original HEIC files and convert them here.

Will I lose quality or location data?

Quality: no visible loss at quality 90. Expect the JPG to be somewhat bigger than the HEIC, because JPG compresses less efficiently.

Location data: the JPG doesn't keep the original's hidden metadata, including GPS location. That makes the converted photos safer to share publicly. Keep the HEIC originals if you want the location and date stored.

What about Live Photos and burst shots?

A Live Photo is a still photo plus a short video. The converter keeps the main still image. Burst photos are saved as separate images, so add the ones you want.

Troubleshooting

  • "This file isn't a HEIC photo": the file is already a JPG or PNG. Many iPhones set to Most Compatible save JPGs directly. You can use it as it is.
  • "This HEIC variant can't be decoded": rare HEIC types from some Android cameras aren't supported. Try exporting the photo as JPG from your phone's gallery app.
  • Conversion is slow on a phone: very large photos need a lot of memory. Convert a few at a time.

Need a PDF or a smaller file instead?

Is it safe to convert private photos?

Yes. The conversion runs inside your browser using a decoder that comes with the page. Your photos are never uploaded, so family pictures and documents stay on your device.

Convert your photos now with HEIC to JPG. If you'd rather stop getting HEIC files, go to Settings → Camera → Formats on your iPhone and choose Most Compatible.

Frequently asked questions

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default since iOS 11. It stores photos at about half the size of JPG with similar quality.

How do I convert HEIC to JPG on Windows without an app?

Open the HEIC to JPG converter in Chrome, Edge or Firefox, drop the photos and press Convert to JPG. No codec or extension is needed.

Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?

Not visibly at the default quality of 90. The JPG is usually larger than the HEIC, which is normal: JPG compresses less efficiently.

How do I stop my iPhone taking HEIC photos?

Go to Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG.
