To calculate your exact age, count the complete years since your date of birth, then the complete months since your last birthday, then the days left over. For example, someone born on 29 February 2000 is exactly 26 years, 8 months and 0 days old on 29 October 2026. The Age Calculator does this for any two dates.

How is exact age calculated?

  1. Years: how many birthdays you've had.
  2. Months: complete months since your last birthday.
  3. Days: the days remaining after those months.

The tricky part is that months have 28 to 31 days. The calculator steps forward from your birth date month by month (31 March plus one month is 30 April, because April is shorter), so the answer always matches the calendar.

Worked example

Born 15 August 1995, age on 29 October 2026:

  • Full years: 15 August 1995 → 15 August 2026 = 31 years
  • Full months: 15 August → 15 October = 2 months
  • Days: 15 October → 29 October = 14 days

So the exact age is 31 years, 2 months and 14 days.

How do I find my age on a specific date?

Many forms ask for your age on a cut-off date: exam boards, job applications, visas, school admissions and sports categories. In the Age Calculator:

  1. Enter your date of birth.
  2. Change Age on to the cut-off date (it's today by default).

The result shows your exact age on that day. This avoids the common mistake of using your age today when the form wants your age on, say, 1 January.

What else does the calculator show?

  • Age in years, plus the full years, months and days.
  • Next birthday: how many days until it, which age you'll turn and the weekday it falls on.
  • Born on a: the day of the week you were born.
  • Totals: your age in months, weeks and days.

For example, someone born on 29 February 2000 was born on a Tuesday.

How are leap-year birthdays handled?

If you were born on 29 February, the calculator treats your birthday as 28 February in years without a leap day. That keeps "next birthday" and "years old" consistent. Some countries' laws use 1 March instead, so for legal documents check your local rule.

Why do online age calculators sometimes disagree?

  • Time zones: a birth just before midnight can fall on different dates in different places. The calculator uses calendar dates only.
  • Month counting: some tools count a month as 30 days, which drifts. This one uses real calendar months.
  • East Asian age reckoning: in some traditions you're 1 at birth and gain a year at New Year. The calculator uses the international system.

How do I calculate age quickly by hand?

Subtract the birth year from the current year, then take off one if your birthday hasn't happened yet this year. In October 2026, someone born in March 1990 is 2026 − 1990 = 36; someone born in December 1990 is still 35 until their birthday. For months and days, count forward from your last birthday on a calendar, being careful with months that have 30 days or fewer.

Common uses

  • Working out exact ages for school admissions.
  • Planning milestone birthdays (your 10,000th day comes at about 27 years and 4 months).
  • Filling forms that ask for age in years and months.
